What to Expect During Your First Boudoir Photography Session
Thinking about booking a boudoir photoshoot but feeling a little nervous? First of all, you're not alone. Almost every woman who walks into my studio has some combination of excitement, nerves, and questions about what to expect.
Maybe you're worried you won't know how to pose. Maybe you're wondering what to wear, whether you'll feel comfortable in lingerie, or if you'll like the way you look in photos. I hear these concerns all the time, and they're exactly why I make the experience at Natalie Noir Studio so personal.
If you're considering your first boudoir photography session in Chino Hills, California, here's what you can expect from the moment you arrive to the moment you see your beautiful images.
Before Your Boudoir Session:
You Don't Have to Have It All Figured Out
You don't need modeling experience, a "perfect" body, or a closet full of expensive lingerie to book a boudoir photoshoot.
You just need to show up as yourself.
It's completely normal to have questions about outfits, posing, and how everything works. You might even wonder if you're confident enough to do something like this. The truth is, you don't have to feel confident before your session. Confidence comes from giving yourself permission to try something new.
I'll help guide you through the experience so you aren't left wondering what to do next. After booking I send out a detailed Boudoir Preparation Guide filled with tons of information from skin prep to what outfits to bring to your session. If your still unsure we can hop on a chat to discuss your session in more detail.
Professional Hair and Makeup:
Time to Get Pampered
Your boudoir experience begins with professional hair and makeup. This is your chance to sit back, relax, and enjoy being pampered while getting ready for your session.
Whether you love soft, natural glam or something a little more dramatic, this part of the experience helps you transition out of your everyday routine and into your photoshoot.
You don't need to arrive knowing exactly how you want to look. My highly skilled makeup artists know exactly what looks good on camera and will communicate with you on what makes you feel most beautiful and comfortable.
PRO TIP: Plan a girls' night or date night afterward! You're going to look and FEEL amazing!
During Your Boudoir Photoshoot:
I'll Tell You Exactly How to Pose
Let's talk about the number one concern I hear: “But I don't know how to pose!”
Good news. You don't have to!
I guide you from hair to toe throughout your entire boudoir photoshoot. I'll demonstrate poses, show you how to move, direct your expressions, and give you specific cues about where to look, how to position your hands, when to breathe, and when to hold a pose.
Think of it as sexy yoga with a hype woman ;)
I'll be right there encouraging you, playing music (and singing), demonstrating poses, and showing you images from the back of my camera so you can see how incredible you're looking.
Most clients arrive feeling a little awkward or nervous. As we move through the first few poses, they start to settle in. Before long, the nerves often turn into laughter, excitement, and a whole lot of “Wait, that's ME?!”
And those moments are some of my favorites.
What If I'm Nervous About My Body?
You are not alone in this, either.
Many women come to their boudoir session worried about their stomach, arms, weight, stretch marks, loose skin, or simply not looking like the women they see on social media.
You don't have to change your body before booking a boudoir session. You don't need to lose weight, tone up, or wait until you reach some imaginary finish line.
My job is to photograph you thoughtfully, guide you into flattering poses, and help you see yourself from a different perspective.
Posing, lighting, angles, and expression all play an important role in creating beautiful boudoir images. I'll help you find positions that work for your body and the look we're creating.
You deserve to celebrate yourself now—not someday when you think you're finally ready.
What Should I Wear to My First Boudoir Session?
Choose outfits that make you feel beautiful, confident, and a little excited to put them on.
Lingerie is a popular choice, but there are plenty of options depending on your personal style. You might love a lace bodysuit, a matching lingerie set, straps and chains, an oversized sweater, a cozy pair of socks, or a softer sheet look.
You don't have to show more skin than you're comfortable with. Your session should feel like you, whether your style is romantic, playful, edgy, or dramatic.
During your session I will photograph you in up to three looks. You can choose to do all three in lingerie or mix it up and add-on one of our experience upgrades like our Signature Wet Set. Trust me, its soo worth it!
How Long Does a Boudoir Photography Session Take?
At Natalie Noir Studio, the full experience typically takes around 4–5 hours, depending on the looks you've chosen or any experience add-ons.
That includes time for professional hair and makeup, getting ready, and photographing your different looks. I don't want you to feel rushed through an experience that's meant to be enjoyed.
Give yourself permission to slow down, settle in, and have fun with it.
What Happens After the Photoshoot?
Once your session is complete, the next exciting part is seeing your images!
Your photo reveal takes place over Zoom, typically within a week of your session. We'll watch a slideshow of your photographs together, and I'll walk you through the image-selection process.
You'll be able to compare images side by side and use a star-ranking system to help narrow down your favorites. The goal is to make choosing your images feel organized and enjoyable rather than overwhelming.
This is often when clients get to see their experience from an entirely new perspective. You might arrive feeling unsure of yourself, but seeing the photographs can remind you just how beautiful you are.
Designing Your Boudoir Album:
A Keepsake to Treasure
Your boudoir experience doesn’t have to end with digital images. If you choose to add a custom album to your collection, I’ll walk you through the options so you can create something that feels personal and uniquely yours.
We’ll go over the different album styles, cover options, sizing, and design details so you can picture exactly how your finished album will look and feel. Whether you’re dreaming of a luxurious keepsake just for yourself or a meaningful, intimate gift for your partner, I’ll help you explore the possibilities and bring your vision to life.
Your album is more than a place to store your photographs. It’s a tangible reminder of this experience, something you can hold in your hands and revisit for years to come. And if you’re creating your boudoir photos as a gift, a beautifully designed album can make the reveal feel even more special.
Want to turn your images into something truly extraordinary? A custom-designed album is the ultimate finishing touch. From the cover to the final layout, every detail is thoughtfully selected to create a timeless keepsake that feels as exquisite as the experience itself. This is your story, beautifully preserved in a form you can hold, revisit, and treasure for years to come.
Is a Boudoir Photoshoot Worth It?
If you've been thinking about booking a boudoir session but keep talking yourself out of it, I want you to know that you don't have to wait until you feel fearless.
You can be nervous and excited at the same time. You can have insecurities and still deserve beautiful photographs. You can have absolutely no idea how to pose and still create images you'll love.
Whether you're booking a boudoir session as a gift for your partner, celebrating a milestone, or simply doing something for yourself, the experience is an opportunity to step outside your everyday routine and see yourself in a new light.
